Diet

Has anyone out there done the South Beach Diet? Did it work? How much weight did you lose? Was it really hard? I am wanting to lost about 15-20 pounds before I go to Pakistan this Summer! I want my stomach to look like it did when I was playing ball in college. I weigh the same as I did in college, but all of my muscle has turned to flab. So I want to loose it. I am glad that I have lost some of my muscle though, I looked way too bulky before. I had huge shoulders and huge thighs and even my pecs were too big. So let me know if I should get the South Beach Diet Book!

  1. south beach diet is similar to a diabetic exchange diet. Both do well on weight loss and are very reasonable compared to most eating systems out there, IMO

  3. any diet that asks you to cut out the sugar and bad carbs works great. But in order to see the best results u still gotta eat well outside of the realm of carbs. I eat this way, similar to a diabetic diet at Dr's recommnedation cuz of some endocrine problem I have, but it works to keep my weight down, too. I think I weigh 12 lbs less than before I started about 2 years ago (i lost 12 lbs in 4 months and it has pretty much stayed off with minor fluctuations). U gotta keep it up though cuz if u stop, you balloon cuz of the carbs.

once I started doing it I came to see that processed carbs and sugar are literally poisonous.

anyway, chances are u will get sick in PK and get diarrhea and lose a bunch of weight inadvertantly. But if u don't get sick, u will probably GAIN weight in PK cuz of all the social eating of fatty, fried, oil laden, carby stuff...oh how I wish I could have some right now!!! :)

    good luck.

  4. It's my experience that many pople actually lose a lot of weight when they are in Pakistan, so that's something to think about. I know a lot of people that do or did South Beach but most have ended up going back to something more sensible (Weight Watchers).

  5. Hi! I am on South Beach right now. I have just started week 2. I am down 7-9 lbs and I feel great. I consulted with a few of my doctor friends and they all agreed that one msut shock their system in the beginning in order to switch gears so to speak. After the first few weeks of strict, then sensible eating and moderation is always advisable
:-) PS My hubby and I did Atkins a couple of years ago for a month and lost a lot of weight.
